Sunday Telegraph Report
“Mostly leaking showers go unnoticed, especially in single storey houses with timber floors, yet the damage they do can be extensive and costly.
A representative from Everseal said that at one house they inspected the shower had been leaking for years.
They said ‘we found in the sub- floor area the leaking had caused the anti capping to rust, allowing white ants to travel up the floor and into the wall.
White ants had infested the wall and the cost to repair was $4140.
Brick veneer houses on a concrete slab are also susceptible to structural damage from a leaking shower.
In a two storey house a leaking shower is always easier to detect –you look for water stains or peeling paint downstairs, not necessary under the shower area.
Everseal said, telltale signs of a leaking shower are a constant build up of mould in the floor/wall corners; mould build up or moisture damage to paint or skirting timber on the opposite side of the shower walls.
Moisture damage to the bottom of the door jamb or architraves if near the shower can loosen tiles in the shower recess area.
Everseal offer the most up to date methods and materials that will permanently seal any leaking shower, balcony and deck. The waterproofing is a rubber based polyurethane membrane system.
